However, typically, the average lifespan of a crown that’s well-looked-after is around 15 years. Those who go the extra mile to take care of their crown will likely see the longevity of their dental crown increase, with some lifespans reaching 30 years.

WHAT ARE THE MAIN TYPES OF CROWNS?

Dental crowns traditionally are a durable solution to restore the function and look of a damaged tooth. The tooth-shaped caps help restore and preserve teeth as well as improve the overall look of your smile at the same time.

That said, dental crowns come in varying materials, all varying in cost:

If you ask a cosmetic dentist, they’ll likely tell you that porcelain crowns are the better option as they achieve the best aesthetic results. But here at Mint, we’re both general, restorative and cosmetic dentists. We like to ensure that the material fits your lifestyle, budget and requirements.

WHAT ARE THE DISADVANTAGES OF DENTAL CROWNS?

One clear disadvantage of crowns for patients can be their cost, but often they’re an essential part of restoration treatments; for example, you might need one after a root canal or dental implant treatment. If this is the case, and dental crowns are out of your budget, we can provide monthly instalment plans and 0% financing to help you spread the cost of your treatment.

Our dentists will also need to reduce the size of the underlying tooth so the crown can fit nicely on top – think of it like a cap!

Other risk factors with crowns may include possible nerve damage or sensitivity – but as with any medical treatment, there are always possible complications. Still, they are not typical and can be managed easily with a dentist.
