What types of fillings are available?

Amalgam (silver) fillings feature a combination of metals that include silver, tin, mercury, and copper. They are a cost-effective option.

Many patients prefer a more cosmetically pleasing alternative to metal fillings, especially if the affected tooth is toward the front of the mouth.

Composite, a tooth-coloured material incorporating elements of glass and acrylic resin, is an excellent cosmetic and minimally invasive option for the patient.

Using composite allows your dentist to preserve more of your natural tooth. In some cases, areas of decay can be removed by air abrasion without discomfort or drilling – the ideal preparation before a filling. Composite fillings have vastly improved in strength in recent years and are a popular treatment at Mint Dental.

What to expect during the dental filling process

To preserve the health of your tooth, your dentist will remove the decay and seal the tooth with a dental filling.

Under a local anaesthetic, they will use a small drill and air abrasion to remove the decayed tissue before filling the cavity and polishing it for a smooth finish.
