The All-on-4 Experience – What It’s Like to Wear

All-on-Four dental implants are a huge investment for anyone, so knowing what they feel like and how they function is an important bit of research you should undertake before taking the plunge. However, before we begin, it’s worth noting that All-on-Four is the best that money can buy, especially if you have a breakdown of bone in your jaw, which prevents you from having conventional dental implant treatment.

What are your other options? Implants placed in your cheekbone, or metal frameworks, which are not as aesthetically pleasing (see all types of full mouth implants).

What it’s like wearing All-on-4

Initially, full dental implants will take some getting used to as they feel different from natural teeth. However, after 1-3 months, patients report feeling a new kind of normal.

  • The upper palate will no longer be covered, so you’ll have restored taste and biting force (with implants, you’ll bite down with five times the pressure of normal teeth).
  • The prosthetic will not feel loose or slip and move around like dentures can.
  • Patients can speak and eat normally, with little restriction on the types of food they eat.
  • Patients will experience no hot or cold sensations (or tooth sensitivity) as there will be no feeling in teeth.
  • All-on-4 will feel bulkier than your natural teeth because they replace all three components (teeth, gum and bone).
  • Will look like just like a set of natural teeth.

Don’t get disheartened by temporaries

First, before you have your All-on-4 final prosthetic fitted, you’ll have temporaries – but be warned, don’t let them scare you because they’ll be different from what your final set will be like. Temporaries are called temporaries for a reason, and your permanent set will have the correct bite, meaning they’ll feel better and look better.

All-on-4 is an immediately loaded tooth replacement procedure, so you’ll be fitted with your temporaries from day one. Your permanent set will be fitted around three months later. So, in the beginning, it’s important to trust the process, give it a chance, and not get disheartened thinking your permanent set will be exactly alike.

But don’t worry too much; we’ll still try to make your temporaries as perfect as possible and try multiple wax try-ons until you approve of the fit and comfort.

All-on-Four patient review

To remain unbiased, we’ve sourced reviews from the web:

What is All-on-4 like?

  • “Amazing. I can’t quantify how much better the all-on-four is than a traditional denture. There is no glueing, rocking, or limit on what foods you can eat. The most important things for me were that my upper palate was no longer covered, and they were so much less bulky. Even with the failure, I would still do it again twice.” Reddit.
  • “Top and bottom permanent all on 4’s – they are magic.” Reddit.
  • “I’m 7 months in….getting final soon and absolutely no regrets…the look is great, and the function is very good.” Reddit.
