Cost of Dentures

While dentures are one of the cheapest prosthetics to replace missing teeth, they still cost a pretty penny. Especially if you want one that’s as good-fitted as it can be. The cost of dentures will undoubtedly vary from practice to practice, whether you go private or via the NHS. However, the price of your dentures will also vary depending on the materials used; for example, plastic acrylic dentures that cover the palate will be cheaper than fixed dentures.

Cost overview – denture types and costs

If you only have a few missing teeth, you’ll likely need a partial denture, which uses metal clasps on existing teeth to stay in place. As the denture replaces a few singular teeth, it’s not as expensive. However, edentulous cases (patients with total tooth loss) will require a complete denture, with costs starting as low as £700.

You can pay for dentures using 0% finance over 12 months or with interest-bearing terms up to 60 months so you can pay monthly manageable instalments for your treatment.

Fixed denture costs

Dental implants secure a full arch of dentures to the roots of your mouth, allowing for the least movement and optimal comfort. In addition, the palate remains uncovered.

Additional costs to expect

There are a few additional fees you should expect with dentures. For example, if you have a few remaining teeth, you might require a tooth extraction to remove them, which will typically be charged at an additional £195 and a max price of £350 if it’s a complex removal. Another cost you’ll face with dentures is the regular purchase of adhesives and glues (prices vary depending on brand).

Other costs:

  • Denture repairs: from £125
  • Tooth addition: from £155, thereafter £35 per tooth

How much do dentures cost on the NHS?

Having dentures fitted via the NHS is a band 3 treatment, typically costing from £319.10. Dentures will also require repair and replacement throughout their lifetime, as they usually last between 5 and 10 years, with partial dentures typically having a lifespan of 15 years.

NHS dentures are always typically made from acrylic and are reportedly bulkier and less comfortable than other private dental options. NHS dentures are not always made to be aesthetically pleasing, which means they don’t always look as natural, so when you opt to go private, you’re opting for better-made, thinner, more natural-looking alternatives.

Getting dentures through insurance

While packages will differ per provider, certain dental insurance plans, like this one on AXA, cover routine and restorative dental treatments like fillings, crowns and dentures. It’s worth noting, however, that most insurance plans will have a spending cap, which means it likely won’t cover the entire cost of your treatment but might cover the cost of cheaper dentures.

4 years a customer and always professional yet friendly service. Corrected my major issues (fillings/caps) and while they're keen to ensure ongoing 'perfect teeth' they don't hard sell peripheral / optional treatments. Highly recommended

I was looking for somewhere with a personal touch, that I could trust and that’s what I got at Mint. They always remember my name and are so polite. After a year of zoom meetings I really wanted my teeth to be straight and the results completely surpassed my expectations. I now feel comfortable taking photos! The team explained everything clearly (I felt I could ask anything multiple times) appointments were always organised and it was a really easy, worthwhile process. My teeth look like my teeth but are now at their best.
