To do this, we use microscope technology that provides magnification and fibre optic illumination during treatment. The microscope lets our endodontist view tiny details within your tooth for more precise treatment. We also uses rotary files for even more accuracy, so you spend less time in the dental chair.
Why might I need a re-root canal?
You might need to have your root canal redone for several reasons. Sometimes, the initial treatment does not heal properly. Other causes include:
- New damage or decay exposes the root canal filling.
- The crown protecting the tooth cracks or becomes loose.
- The previously treated tooth has broken.
- The first root canal was not completed to a sufficient standard to prevent contamination in the tooth.
- The shape of the root canal is more complicated but was not detected during the initial endodontic assessment.

What can I expect when having a re-root canal treatment?
Before the procedure, your dentist will carefully examine your tooth to determine why your first root canal might have failed. This assessment will enable the dentist to create a treatment plan for your re-root canal treatment.
Your dentist will follow the same procedure as before. Sometimes, if the root canal is narrow or blocked, you may require a minor surgical procedure. The surgery involves making a small cut in the gum under a local anaesthetic.
The dentist will remove any diseased tissue and the root’s tip before sealing the root canal’s end and closing the incision.
