As denture dentists, we advise patients not to attempt repairing their broken dentures at home.
Even a minor misalignment of your fixed dentures can affect the suction, which can cause damage to your mouth or the dentures to break easily again.
As dentures play a huge role in how you eat, speak and smile, any damage caused to them is considered a dental emergency, which we can treat quickly and efficiently at our London practice in SE1.
We’re available 24 hours to fix broken dentures
If your dentures are broken, remove them from your mouth. Retaining the dentures comes with a significant choking risk or the chance you damage your gums or palate.
Whilst it might be tempting to repair the dentures yourself, most of our prosthetic dentists discourage it.
For example, some denture repair kits claim to fix cracks, but we know that this doesn’t exactly work. At-home repairs also lead to more problems like sickness, rubbing, discomfort and damage to the gums and tongue.

“I have had excellent treatment from both Dr Imran who made me a wonderful set of natural looking dentures and Mr Patel who has done and is still doing some excellent dental work for me. All in all, a fantastic service.” Terry, London
Dental tip: Wear and tear might cause a broken denture, which after years of use, might have undergone several stress cycles of chewing and daily wear. Progressive bone bones, which are common in denture wearers, may also cause your dentures to loosen over time and become ill-fitting. The lack of stability, in this case, can lead to the denture cracking or breaking.
In some cases, a denture can be repaired easily. However, depending on the severity of the breakage, you might need a replacement denture.
In dental cases where a tooth on the denture is cracked, we can easily fix this in one appointment.
But where a denture has broken in half, the fix might be more complex as the integrity of the denture is damaged, and the suction is consequently affected.
Our prosthodontist will remove the damaged or broken tooth and replace it with a new one after taking the right measurements and matching the colour to the rest of the denture teeth.
We can attach the new tooth to the denture from here, and the repair will be complete. Timelines for repairs can vary, depending on if the denture tooth needs to be completed in a lab or from the chair.
Most denture repairs are done in one appointment, whereas more complex cases can take a few weeks. However, remember that we can offer safe temporary solutions in the meantime.
