Typical pre-implant procedures for patients with missing teeth
Providing our London patients with stable, long-lasting implants, including pre-implant surgeries to maximise bone support, might sometimes be necessary.
Standard procedures for creating a healthy environment for implants include socket preservation, bone regeneration and sinus augmentation.

Ridge Preservation
Those who require tooth extraction before dental implant surgery or have a gap due to a prior tooth extraction might have a hole or socket left from the procedure.
In some situations, an implant can be placed directly into the socket.
However, in cases where the bone has deteriorated, one of our dentists will need to rebuild or fill the socket.
Procedures in making this happen to involve bone grafts and membranes to ensure the site is again stable for implantation.

Bone Regeneration And Grafting
Bone loss is serious; it supports your oral state and facial structure. And you might think, “I haven’t had missing teeth for very long, so how can I be experiencing bone deterioration.”
Well, that’s because bone loss can occur very quickly following an accident or tooth extraction.
Bone loss can occur in as little as six weeks, so it’s crucial to follow a dentist’s advice and have a replacement plan ready following an extraction or even through accidental loss.
It’s common for patients with missing teeth to experience bone loss in their jaw, or at least loss of bone in a certain location in the jaw.
The longer you ignore gaps in the mouth, the worse the situation becomes. Bone does not regrow.
When missing teeth have been ignored for an extended period, the jawbone goes through changes that cause it to shrink, often making implantation impossible.
Bone regeneration or bone grafting surgery is used to rebuild the lost bone in the jaw through materials and membranes that bulk up the bony ridge.
Once this has been accomplished and the site has had enough time to heal, it will again be strong enough to support an implant.

Sinus Augmentations And Lifts
Sinus lifts are often necessary when creating extra room in the upper jaw to place bone.
The sinus lift surgery sounds much scarier than it really is; patients undergoing the procedure will feel little to no discomfort.
Sinus augmentation simply makes it easier for implant dentists to position dental implants. The surgery, in this case, increases the amount of bone in the upper jaw by adding bone to the space between the molar and premolar area.
The sinus membranes must be lifted (hence the procedure’s name) to make room for the new bone. Dental specialists like an oral maxillofacial surgeon or a periodontist often handle the procedures, two of which we actually have on-site daily. So, there’s no need for external referrals or prolonged wait times.
