At Mint Dental, we offer a comprehensive range of dental restorations in Elephant & Castle, carried out by an experienced team. From custom-created crowns and bridges to dentures and dental implants, we’ll talk you through the treatment that’s best for your needs, and create a detailed treatment plan to suit your budget.
Crowns
A crown (cap) is needed when the top part of the tooth has heavily broken down, or after root canal treatment. This treatment is advised when there is not enough tooth structure to hold a filling.
There are many types of crowns available at Mint Dental
- Non-precious metal (silver in appearance) – strong, less tooth preparation (ideal if not much tooth structure remaining).
- Precious metal/gold – strong, requiring less tooth preparation (ideal if not much tooth structure remaining), good margins/seal
- Porcelain bonded to metal – good strength and aesthetics
- Emax – all-ceramic crown milled via CAD/CAM with fantastic aesthetics (better than porcelain bonded crowns) combined with extra strength.

Bridges
Bridges replace sections of missing teeth and help to support remaining teeth and keep them in their proper position. Bridges are a long-term solution that can help prevent the cycle of problems that occur when just one tooth is missing, such as shifting and drifting of remaining teeth. Unlike dentures, a bridge is not removable, giving increased support and stability within the mouth.
When a lost tooth or teeth are replaced with bridgework, the teeth on either side of the gap must be crowned to serve as reinforced anchors to hold the bridge in place.
Dentures
If you are missing some or all of your teeth, Mint Dental is extremely experienced at fitting partial and full dentures. Made from acrylic, nylon or metal, dentures fit snugly over your gums to replace missing teeth and counteract any problems missing teeth can cause – such as trouble eating and speaking, unwanted movement of existing teeth, and facial sagging. Unlike crowns and bridges, dentures need to be removed daily for cleaning.
Today’s dentures can be made to look exactly like natural teeth, and can even be secured with dental implants, removing common problems such as slipping and clicking and giving you greater confidence when eating and speaking.

Fitting
Once you have decided the type of restoration you want (our dentists are always here for more advice), we will prepare the tooth for the crown and take impressions to send off to our dental laboratory. Whilst the crown or bridge is being made at our lab, a temporary one is placed to protect the tooth. During this period:
- Avoid eating chewy hard foods.
- Brush and floss gently.
- Chew with the opposite side of your mouth if you can.
The temporary restoration is removed when your permanent crown or bridge is ready to be fitted.
